Project Overview
Early November 2024 Allclear Demolition began the task of the complete internal strip out back to shell of retail units 12 & 13 Wheatley Retail Park, including as part of the tasking, over two floor levels the removal of internal passenger lifts, two passenger escalators followed by the removal of first floor elevation steelwork mezzanine structure within both units.
Key Project Steps
Pre-Planning
• Live Retail Park: Due to this tasking been within a live retail park, protection to the public throughout the works was imperative. Adequate segregation along with movement of materials from site was methodically planned and executed. Creation of dust and vibration was closely monitored by Allclear Demolition Supervisor throughout.
• Sequencing: with an established waste skip compound at the rear of the units allowing only two waste skips at any one time, Allclear Demolition established a
methodical sequence of works to ensure the removal of waste arisings coordinated with the waste skip removal.
Internal Soft Stripping:
• Internal soft strip out of anything not structurally integral to the building were removed, including fixtures and fittings, floor coverings, suspended ceilings, bulk heads, partition walls and M&E
Passenger Lift Removal:
• Internal passenger lifts were decommissioned and surged prior to the safe removal of carriage and associated guide rails and M&E.
Escalator Removal:
• Technical planning prior to the removal of 2 Nr. internal escalators were carried out including specific lifting plan.
• A combination of manual unbolting and hot works were used to strip each escalator down to existing carcass’ with an established chain block hoist utilised to lower the carcass to ground level.
Mezzanine Removal:
• Manual separation of the mezzanine structure from the existing unit superstructure was initially required followed by the excavator operative methodically dismantling the mezzanine, removing decking beams, main support beams and vertical support columns.
Achievements:
• Finished ahead of Schedule: Completed the project one week earlier than scheduled.
• Leadership: Demonstrated outstanding planning, coordination, and communication throughout the project.
